The NRK-52e cells were seeded at a density of 5×104 cells/ml on 96-well plates. The cells were pre-treated with 0, 0.5, 1, 5 or 10 mM trolox for 30 min and then treated with 0, 8, 16 or 24 mM melamine. Proliferation assays of NRK-52e cells were performed by measuring absorbance at wavelength of 570 nm using a microplate reader according to the procedure as described previously (Mosmann, 1983; Zhang et al., 2005; Zhang et al., 2010).
