The AGRP protein is critical for body weight homeostasis and regulates feeding behavior through the central melanocortin system. As an antagonist of alpha melanocyte-stimulating hormone, AGRP inhibits cAMP production through melanocortin receptors in the hypothalamus and adrenal glands.
